Zoids Name Generator

[author]

Mechanical beasts racing across open deserts, metal fangs clashing, heavy armor plates sliding into place – Zoids-style worlds are full of towering animal mechs with serious attitude. The right name makes a Zoid feel real: heavy, fast, dangerous, or loyal, just from a few words.

The Zoids Name Generator is built to help you find those names fast. With one click, you get six fresh mech-beast names that fit right into a Zoids-inspired setting. Some are short and punchy, others are longer model-style names with elements and roles included.

What Makes a Great Zoids Name?

A good Zoids-style name should:

  • Sound like a machine and an animal at the same time
  • Hint at what the Zoid does in battle
  • Be easy to shout across the arena

The generator uses three main parts to get that feeling.

Strong mech-beast cores

Cores are the base part of the name. They feel like animal machines:

  • Wolfgear, Tigron, Panthar, Skyraptor
  • Gearbison, Stormrhino, Basiliron, Rhexion
  • Gravelynx, Auroraptor, Razorhydra, Gearjackal

These mix animal ideas (wolf, tiger, raptor, bison, lynx, hydra) with mechanical hints (gear, iron, core, storm, hazard). You can use them as:

  • Standalone Zoids names for simple builds
  • The base part of bigger “model” names with prefixes and roles

Element and style prefixes

The second piece is the prefix – this tells you the element, power type, or style:

  • Steel, Iron, Terra, Magna – heavy armor, ground type
  • Volt, Thunder, Plasma – speed, electricity, high energy
  • Blaze, Crimson, Hazard – aggressive, risky, overheating builds
  • Cryo, Glacier, Aqua – cold, control, water-based Zoids
  • Shadow, Phantom, Obsidian – stealth, night, ambush units
  • Neo, Hyper, Omega, Core, Arc – advanced, experimental, or main-line models

Examples:

  • Steel Wolfgear – a heavily armored wolf-type Zoid
  • Volt Skyraptor – a fast aerial striker with electric weapons
  • Shadow Gravelynx – a stealthy night attacker
  • Cryo Auroraptor – an ice-based raptor with freezing strikes

Just reading the prefix and core, you already see the Zoid in your head.

Role words that feel like model tags

Finally, the generator adds simple role words that you can treat like model tags:

  • Unit, Model, Engine – core chassis or production type
  • Assault, Striker, Breaker, Runner, Hunter, Raider – attack-focused builds
  • Guardian, Sentinel, Garrison, Patrol, Scout – defense or support units
  • Vanguard, Commander, Dominion, Prime, Alpha – elite, leader, or special forms
  • Artillery, Siege, Battler, Harrier, Monolith, Helix – heavy weapons, flying harassers, or unique variants

So you get names like:

  • Steel Wolfgear Unit – standard frontline machine.
  • Volt Skyraptor Striker – hit-and-run air attacker.
  • Terra Gearbison Artillery – heavy cannon platform.
  • Shadow Panthar Vanguard – elite night assault unit.

You can decide how each tag translates into stats and abilities in your game, story, or tabletop system.

How to Use the Zoids Name Generator

You can use this generator for fan Zoids, custom tabletop campaigns, model collections, or any mech-animal project.

1. Click to get six Zoids names

Press “Generate Zoids Names” and the generator shows six names at once. You’ll usually see a mix of:

  • Prefix + core names
  • Core + role names
  • Full prefix + core + role model names

Examples:

  • Steel Wolfgear Unit
  • Volt Skyraptor Striker
  • Shadow Tigron Hunter
  • Terra Gearbison Artillery

You can pick one straight away or use them as inspiration.

2. Match the name to your Zoid’s build

Think about three things:

  • Base animal – wolf, cat, raptor, bison, dragon, hydra, etc.
  • Element – earth, fire, ice, lightning, shadow, etc.
  • Role – scout, sniper, melee, artillery, commander.

Then pick a name that fits:

  • Fast desert scout
    • Rapid Stridorak Runner
    • Volt Wolfgear Scout
  • Heavy artillery Zoid
    • Terra Gearbison Artillery
    • Magna Basiliron Siege
  • Aerial striker
    • Aero Skyraptor Striker
    • Volt Arcgryph Assault
  • Stealth ambusher
    • Shadow Gravelynx Hunter
    • Phantom Nightmaw Raider

If none of the current six feel right, just click again.

3. Click again for more options

The generator uses a pool of 100,000 unique names, so you can refresh as much as you like without repeating the same handful over and over.

4. Click a name to copy it

Find a name you like?

  • Click the name card.
  • The name is copied to your clipboard.
  • The button briefly changes to “Copied!” as a confirmation.

Paste it into:

  • Your Zoids OC sheet
  • A tabletop mech roster
  • A story outline
  • A model collection list or spreadsheet

5. Build full teams from related patterns

Once you find a pattern, use it to create whole squads:

  • Wolf team
    • Steel Wolfgear Unit
    • Volt Wolfgear Striker
    • Shadow Wolfgear Hunter
    • Core Wolfgear Prime
  • Raptor wing
    • Aero Skyraptor Runner
    • Volt Skyraptor Striker
    • Cryo Skyraptor Guardian
    • Hyper Skyraptor Vanguard
  • Bison artillery line
    • Terra Gearbison Artillery
    • Magna Gearbison Siege
    • Core Gearbison Garrison

The names themselves give you a structure for roles and upgrades.

Zoids Naming Tips for Your Own Projects

You can combine generator output with your own tweaks.

Mix short and long names

Use the short names for:

  • Prototype designations
  • Early test builds
  • Nicknames pilots use in dialogue

Example: A Zoid officially called “Volt Wolfgear Striker” might be casually called “Volgar” by its pilot, using one of the shorter generated names.

Use prefixes as “series” names

Treat certain prefixes as factory lines or factions:

  • Steel / Terra / Magna / Iron → ground-heavy faction
  • Volt / Thunder / Plasma → high-speed electric faction
  • Cryo / Glacier / Aqua → cold/water faction
  • Shadow / Phantom / Obsidian → stealth/black-ops faction
  • Neo / Hyper / Omega / Core → experimental or next-gen faction

Then build squads where every Zoid shares the same prefix but a different core.

Evolve Zoids by adding or changing tags

You can show upgrades in the name itself:

  • Base: Steel Wolfgear Unit
  • Upgraded armor: Steel Wolfgear Guardian
  • High-performance refit: Hyper Wolfgear Runner
  • Final boss form: Omega Wolfgear Dominion

The generator gives you all the words you need to mark each stage.

Tie role words to in-game stats

If you’re designing a game, you can give each role a rough rule:

  • Assault / Striker / Raider → high attack, lower defense
  • Guardian / Sentinel / Garrison → high defense, lower speed
  • Runner / Scout / Pursuit → high speed, light weapons
  • Artillery / Siege / Monolith → long range, slow movement
  • Prime / Alpha / Dominion → rare, expensive, strong abilities

Then when you see a name like “Crimson Hazardrex Assault”, you already know what kind of stats it should have.
